If was quite bittersweet to leave our little spot in the driveway in Santa Fe. We have come to really enjoy the comfort of friends always nearby, the luxury of a car to drive to steep beautiful places, let alone the free RV parking with electric and the best Wi-Fi we have had yet. We went to a small Vietnamese restaurant with Jonathan and Jonel last night. It seemed familiar and homey. Maybe we live here now. It feels wonderful to be with old friends and new. We have been unsure of where to go next, the US budget not being approved would have closed all national parks, so I have been checking the news regularly, and the weather is playing with us again. At night the temperatures have been falling and our pipes will freeze if it goes to 24 or so. I checked Fairfield weather- 80!- Not fair!!! We have decided to visit places that will be around 30 at night for 2 nights and then we will head for Chaco, a not to miss place, but it is too cold there now. We have decided to leave the next morning twice now, but finally we moved on. On the road this morning we were sad, but the sense of being on our own and the adventure of our trip returned. We drove East to Pecos Park and learned of this amazing city that flourished back in the 1200’s to 1500’s. A major place of trade for many different Native American peoples, there were as many as 2000 people living here. Then the Spanish came and brought technology and Christianity. Neither, in my opinion, did them any good. It was fun to walk the middle of the town courtyard and imagine the same stroll with the natives a millennium ago.
